About the Foundation

We are not working for art. We are working through it.

Originally, The Artiste Foundation existed to support artistes. Today it exists because art itself can transform society.

Our story

We are The Artiste Foundation because we celebrate the performing arts.

The Artiste Foundation was formally established on 19 July 2010, with a vision to create meaningful opportunities for artists while strengthening the role of the performing arts in society. In its early years, that meant exactly what the name suggested – supporting artistes: mentoring young performers, producing independent theatre, organising benefit concerts.

But somewhere along the way, the purpose grew larger than the activity. Today, TAF exists because art itself can transform society. Performance is no longer the end of the work – it’s the beginning of a dialogue. Where the old model ran Performance → Event → Audience, TAF’s is Performance → Dialogue → Reflection → Society.

The word Artiste stands for performers who express culture through movement, music, theatre and live expression. The word Foundation is deliberate: when people hear it, they think education, healthcare, environment. Very few think art. That gap is precisely the opportunity.

TAF-lotus
Vision

A society where art is not what we turn to after the real problems are solved, but how we understand them.

Meeta-Nagpal-President & Founder-TAF

Meeta Nagpal is a long-time promoter of performing arts and new talent, and the founder of Musical Dreams, an artistic development academy based in Delhi. Her work in artist training and career development over more than a decade convinced her that talent alone wasn’t enough – artists also needed dignity, mentorship and a larger sense of purpose. That conviction became The Artiste Foundation in 2010.

Under her leadership, TAF has grown from producing independent theatre to building a cultural ecosystem – mentoring artists, preserving heritage through initiatives like Dharohar Samvaad, and using performance to start conversations that outlast the applause.
