One Mission

Positive Mental Health

First in India to launch a Pre-Exam Helpline in 1996, pioneering a movement that continues to this day.

Origin Story

Founder Led Organisation

Snehi started based on the real-life experiences of our founder’s student life, which has been a driving force and inspiration to move forward.

On the 12th of October, 1994, a group of concerned individuals from various walks of life came together on the initiative of Mr. Abdul Mabood, our Founder, and formed a not-for-profit organization focusing on the mental health & well- being needs of the community, naming it as Snehi.

It was registered as a Society in April 1996 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 at Delhi.

Since its inception, Snehi has been engaged in different projects to energize society and its institutions, as well as help individuals, face the challenges to their psychosocial wellbeing.

Our Guiding Principles

Voluntary prevention is better than any cure

Our Guiding Principles

If what we stand for matters to you, connect.

The Preamble

Mental Health is a Fundamental Right, not a privilege

In the contemporary world, we are witnessing a process of change in all walks of life in a manner that humanity has not perhaps encountered before. Rapid and radical advancements in the field of science and technology, particularly in IT, and “globalization” in economic, political, and socio-cultural spheres have brought about unprecedented changes in the way people look at and experience life. In such a scenario, the beliefs and values of people and institutions are in flux.

The traditional institutions and support structures seem to give way to the ones that are yet to be ascertained and consolidated with certainty. Such a state of affairs, though conspicuous in an urban area, is not confined to it. The pristine and innocent rural life is more of a romantic idea for some people than a reality.

In fact, as far as the aforesaid contemporary changes are concerned, the gap between cities, towns, and villages is increasingly diminishing. Concomitant with these changes are the various psychosocial problems faced by the people.

Many known & unknown issues are the part of contemporary life that poses serious challenges to people’s psychosocial wellbeing. Naming a few:

Family Disputes
Marital Discords
Strained or Broken Relations
Lack of Communication Between Parents and Children
Problems of Value Conflict
Maladjustment Problems
Depression
Loneliness
Alcoholism And Drug Addiction
Problems Related to Sexuality and Sexual Identity
Reproductive Health and Choice
Incest
Sexual Abuse
Neglected Senior Citizens and Their Problems
Stresses Of Consumerist and Market-Driven Society
Rising Crimes Against Children & Women
Unchecked Sectarian Violence
Racial & Gender Discrimination
Hunger
Massive Unemployment
Dwindling Economy
Decreasing Faith in the Justice System
Crumbling Democratic Institutions
Rising Hate-Based Violence
Diminishing Common Civic Space for All
Increasing Gap Between Haves and Have-Nots
Continuous Attack on Rights of Citizens

Key Milestones

31+ Years of Listening

2025

A landmark year for Snehi, marked by the reopening of its centre in Vasant Kunj, Delhi, on 12th October after a five-year gap in operations.

2023

SNEHI achieved a major milestone by securing its first CSR grant from PTC (Power Trading Corporation), enabling the organisation to expand its services and reach more communities.

2022

To strengthen and scale its impact, we began approaching Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partners, opening new avenues for sustainable support and programme development.

2001

Snehi partnered with Father Agnel Bal Bhawan, Greater Noida, to provide psychosocial support and trauma care. This partnership marked the beginning of long-term work with destitute children.

1999

Snehi continued strengthening its counselling and community outreach programmes, expanding its presence among vulnerable groups while promoting mental health awareness across Delhi.

1998

Building on its student support initiatives, Snehi introduced HOPELINE, a pre- and post-result counselling helpline designed to help students navigate academic stress and uncertainty.

1997

Launched DISHA, a dedicated pre-exam helpline for students. In collaboration with Delhi Police, the organisation also established a family counselling centre at Yamuna Pushta.

1996

Snehi was officially registered as a non-governmental mental health organisation on 30th April. Later that year, we started working for children of migrant labour families living in Yamuna Pushta, Delhi’s biggest slum area.

1995

Expanded our outreach through awareness programmes in schools and colleges. The organisation also began working with street children living around Delhi Railway Stations and nearby communities.

1994

Founded by Mr. Abdul Mabood and like-minded individuals committed to supporting people facing mental health challenges. Volunteer counsellor trainings were conducted, and the counselling helpline was launched on 12th October.
